Storm Damage
What the job actually involves.
North Texas sits in the part of the country that takes the most damaging hail, and a bad storm does not confine itself to the roof. The same stones that bruise a shingle dent the gutters, crack the window screens, chip the paint off the west elevation and flatten a cedar fence. Homeowners find this out in the order the contractors turn up: a roofer for the roof, then a fence company, then a painter, then a gutter crew, each with their own schedule and their own invoice.
We are a licensed general contractor as well as a roofing contractor, which is the reason that list can be one job instead of four. The roof is what we are, and the rest of the storm scope is work we can carry rather than hand off.
How It Works
Call or send the form
Tell us what you are seeing and where the property is. A storm date helps if there was one.
Free inspection
About 15 to 20 minutes on the roof and in the attic, and you get a written report with photographs to keep.
The scope, in writing
What the roof needs, what it costs, and on a claim, what the carrier has and has not allowed for.
The work
Roof first, then the gutters, fence, windows or siding if the storm took those too. One company for the lot.
The Difference
Where these go wrong.
Hail damage on a composition roof is easier to miss than people expect. A bruise is a spot where the stone fractured the fiberglass mat under the surface without breaking through it. From the ground it looks like nothing. From a ladder it looks like a dark circle where the granules have been knocked loose. What it means is that the mat is cracked, water will find it, and the clock on that roof has been reset to a much shorter number. Adjusters mark these in chalk and count them per test square, which is why an inspection report with photographs is worth having before anyone from an insurance company arrives.
Wind is the other half. Straight-line winds in a North Texas thunderstorm regularly break the seal strip that holds one shingle course down onto the one below, without lifting the shingle off the deck. The roof looks perfect and is no longer sealed, and the next storm gets underneath it.
Not every storm does damage worth a claim, and we will tell you when yours did not. A few hits on a slope is not a roof, and filing a claim that gets denied is worse than not filing one.

Storm Damage, answered.
How soon after a storm should I have the roof looked at?
Before the water finds a way in, and before the claim deadline in your policy runs out. Texas policies commonly limit how long after a loss you have to report it, and the date of the storm is what matters, not the date you noticed. A free inspection costs nothing and gives you a dated report either way.
Can I tell from the ground whether I have hail damage?
Almost never on a composition roof. Bruising does not break the surface and is invisible from a driveway. What you can sometimes see from the ground are dents in soft metal: the gutters, the downspouts, a vent cap, an air conditioner fin. If those are dented, the roof took the same stones.
Do you handle the gutters and the fence too?
Yes. We hold a general contractor’s license, so the gutters, fencing, windows, siding, painting and HVAC that come with a storm scope are work we coordinate rather than refer out.
What if the damage is not enough for a claim?
Then we say so. Some storms leave a handful of hits on one slope, and that is not a roof. You get the report with the photographs for your records, so if a later storm adds to it you have a dated baseline.
Will you tarp the roof if it is leaking now?
Tarping is the first thing to do when water is coming in, because it stops the damage getting more expensive while the rest is sorted out. Call and tell us what you are seeing.
